Pushing Boundaries – BERING 145

Edited by Shereen Shabnam

Recently I had a few yacht enthusiasts from Fiji and New Zealand asking me about custom built yachts from different parts of the world and while sending them a few options, I came across Bering Yachts after hearing about them briefly some years ago at the Istanbul Boat Show.

As yacht builders, the team at Bering cover all phases of the building process, from concept, design, engineering, and construction. They recently announced the sale of a Bering 145 for delivery in January 2022. The Bering 145 is a full-custom 45-meter superyacht designed by Bering Yachts’ in-house team of naval architects and engineers.

Now under construction, this transoceanic model combines elegance, speed, and the latest technology and represents Bering Yachts’ largest build to-date. It has a full displacement steel hull of 514 metric tons.

Alexey Mikhailov, President and Chairman of Bering Yachts mentions that Bering 145is the culmination of their customer’s many years of yacht-owning experience combined with Bering Yachts’ technical know-how.

“This extraordinary yacht is really pushing boundaries of latest propulsion technologies and is offering a phenomenally economic and up-scaleable solution to long-range global cruising. We are immensely proud to have the Bering 145 as a ground breaking new flagship for Bering Yachts,” he adds.

The Bering 145’s hybrid propulsion system drives the propellers with electric motors charged by a bank of batteries. The battery banks are recharged by high-efficiency, variable speed DC generators. Docking and mooring is possible in electric mode.

Capable of taking on the most extreme cruising itinerary the range in hybrid mode is more than 12,000 miles at a cruising speed of 9 knots. And with her enormous 95,600 liters (25,265 gallons) fuel capacityshe can travel more than 4,500 nautical miles under conventional power at a minimum cruising speed of 8 knots. The maximum speed of the vessel is 15 knots.

The Bering 145 features an extremely functional six-stateroom layout on a 9.7-meter (31 foot) beam. The master stateroom is located on the main deck toward the bow with glass windows measuring more than 9.5 square meters. The five guest staterooms are located on the lower deck.

Accommodation is provided for a total crew capacity of 12 with the Captain’s cabin behind the wheelhouse. The main deck houses a huge saloon with a dining area for 12 and a light, enlarged-window, full-beam lounge area. A second dining area is on the upper deck sky lounge.

A key feature for the Owner was Bering 145’s vast deck spaces with a spacious beach club aft providing 40 square meters of outdoor relaxing and entertainment space. On the flybridge is a SPA zone, bar, and gas grill, among several luxurious amenities.

The lower deck provides generous storage for water toys with tenders placed on the upper deck. Bering 145 is clearly designed with an emphasis on both serious cruising capability and owner and guest enjoyment, relaxation, and entertainment.

FERRETTI YACHTS 1000: BIGGER AND BETTER

Ferretti Yachts has revealed its future in the shape of its new flagship, which is the biggest it has ever built

No dream is too big: with a length of 100 feet, the breath-taking new Ferretti Yachts flagship takes the company into uncharted territory. Majestic, versatile and suitable for all markets, Ferretti Yachts 1000 has reshaped spaces and changed the whole approach to life on board. It features unprecedented design solutions and a choice of two different moods for the interiors. Owners and their guests can enjoy complete privacy and make the most of the exterior thanks to an extremely innovative and practical aft beach area and a spacious flybridge that is connected directly to the forward section.

At the heart of the project is the idea of unparalleled comfort and well-being both outdoors and indoors. Quintessential Italian taste prevails in an understated, polished design that combines clean-cut shapes and refined materials. There is a sense of sophisticated luxury that brings out the best of the values summed up by the slogan “Just Like Home”: comfort, Italian qualities, timeless designs and craftsmanship.

The new vessel stems from the partnership between Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee (led by engineer Piero Ferrari)and Engineering Department, with exterior design work by architect Filippo Salvetti and a new interior design concept by Ideaeitalia.

LOFTY FORMS AND TIMELESS ELEGANCE

Ferretti Yachts 1000 is the shipyard’s first 100% wide-body vessel. The exteriors espouse the same design outlook seen in the other recent models in the range. It has a sporty outline, with lateral glass structures aft and amidships. Teak plays a prominent role, appearing not only on the aft beach area but also on the curves of the hatch, the walkways, the stairs leading to the flybridge, and the external helm station. In addition, Ferretti Yachts 1000 is the company’s first ever vessel to feature substantial use of carbon: all of the superstructure, including the hard top, will be made of the material.

“Ferretti Yachts 1000 is the brand’s flagship and it heralds a new style based on even more simple and clean-cut forms. They give the yacht a strong, spontaneous and graceful appearance with an extremely fresh and vibrant silhouette. The new concept for on-board flows that has been introduced here is set to become an iconic part of all of the large vessels in the range. Designed with the future in mind, this new creation takes things to the next level for faithful Ferretti Yachts customers,” said Filippo Salvetti about the new flagship.

The elegant, modern interior design stays true to the nautical traditions that are an inherent part of the Ferretti Yachts DNA. The indoor spaces are highly versatile thanks to a modular layout that gives owners plenty of scope to put their own personal stamp on the on-board experience. It really feels like home. Lots of natural light pours through the large floor-to-ceiling glazed windows, which bring out the best of the surroundings and emphasise the close connection with the sea. The free-standing furniture adds a sense of lightness, while a degree of timeless style is established by the curves of the geometric detailing. Wood is the predominant material in the interior design scheme and a number of different types have been masterfully combined. Nonetheless, there is a feeling of perfect balance between the materials. Superior coverings and fabrics add delightfully soft, warm and comfortable sensations that offset the sheen of marble and glass. Simple yet sublime qualities shine through in every detail. Owners and their guests are made to feel welcome in every area. Fleeting fashions play no part in the spellbinding shapes, which nonetheless encapsulate the very moment when they were conceived.

One of the distinguishing features of the approach taken in the new partnership with Ideaeitalia is a choice between two different interior moods: classic, with soft, traditional tones and subtle contrasts, and contemporarywith bold colours and more urban and modern influences, underlining the widespread international impact on Italian style.

OUTSTANDING FEATURES OF FERRETTI YACHTS 1000

Ferretti Yachts 1000 presents a revamped stern concept with 40 m² of living space, which is on a par with super yacht sizes. It is an authentic beach club with direct links between the swimming platform and the cockpit, creating an open wellness area. Situated right next to the sea, it opens up all sorts of adventurous opportunities for owners, who can use the unprecedented outdoor entertainment zone however they like. A ground-breaking concept makes it easy to climb up when the swimming platform is under water. There are three steps on each side that open up as the platform lowers, extending the cockpit stairs. Ferretti Group has patented the design, which was entirely developed by the Engineering Department. On the starboard side there is independent access to the garage, which can accommodate a Williams Sportjet 445 tender, a personal watercraft and even 2 Seabob. A glass and steel railing runs around the aft side of the large cockpit, which contains two comfortable sofas and a central table that can be transformed into a coffee table or a dining table. The area can be complemented with free-standing items. It enhances the experience at anchor, as there are no architectural features that block direct contact with the surroundings.

The distribution of on-board flows has been innovatively overhauled: access from the cockpit to the flybridge is provided by two stairways and from there it is possible to reach the forward area, where complete privacy is guaranteed. Both of the side walkways on the main deck lead inside. From there, it is easy to get to the raised helm station and back to the flybridge and the forward area. Consequently, owners, their guests and the crew can all comfortably move around separately.

There is an exemplary approach to space and ergonomics, with a large lounge that looks directly out over the sea, a galley that is truly unprecedented in a yacht of this size, and a totally unique owner’s cabin. On request, the large floor-to-ceiling glazed windows in the lounge on the main deck can be made to open up on both sides. Along with the glass door at the entrance, they help to break down the visual barriers dividing the inside and outside, making it feel like a seafront terrace.

One of the yacht’s crowning glories is its multi-purpose galley, which is designed to satisfy even the most demanding owners. Spanning a huge 10 m², it boasts a comprehensive range of equipment. An electric wall opening system reveals a bar and joins it together with the dining area. Further facilities come in the shape of a laundry and storage area next to the galley. It provides access to the crew area, which sleeps five people altogether. As well as a large captain’s cabin, there are two twin cabins. The solutions underline the international nature of the design, which can cater to the needs of different markets and different on-board requirements. Ferretti Yachts 1000 is perfect for everything from family cruises to charter services.

With the standard layout, there are five cabins in the guest area: an owner’s suite on the main deck and four large double cabinsthat are all the same size on the lower deck. It is possible to have separate beds in the two forward cabins. Owners can happily stay in their own little private apartment with a full range of facilities, including a sizeable full-beam bathroom adorned with a perfect blend of marble and wood. It is a beautiful piece of exceptional workmanship. The rooms on the lower deck have been cleverly, rationally designed and the materials are exquisitely balanced.

PROPULSION AND TECHNOLOGY

Ferretti Yachts 1000, with twin MTU 16V 2000 M86 engines delivering 2638 mhp (optional), reaches a top speed of 28 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots (preliminary data)

On request, the new yacht can be equipped with a gyroscopic stabilisation system and stabilising fins to keep it as quiet and comfortable as possible both at anchor and out on the waves. Ferretti Yachts 1000 is classified as a recreational craft with CE marking.

The newest RIB produced by TecnoRib, official licensee for PIRELLI-branded inflatable boats, is a walkaround with aggressive styling and refined detailing. The emphasis is on open spaces, from the surprising day area to the sofa in the bow, with a broad range of engine options available.

The PIRELLI 42, which made its debut at boot Düsseldorf 2020, has been designed jointly with Swedish firm Mannerfelt Design Team and will be used either as a shadow boat or a day cruiser.

A walkaround with a strong personality, PIRELLI 42 interprets the evolving style and philosophy of the maxi ribs built by the Milan-based shipyard and represents a new step forward in the creative process that began with the PIRELLI 1400.

Given its world debut at boot di Düsseldorf 2020, it is 13.1 meters long, with a beam of 4.10 meters, and has been designed and built to offer an onboard lifestyle that puts the accent on relaxation and comfort. PIRELLI 42, which will be fitted out to meet the owner’s needs, can accommodate numerous guests in total comfort.

Featuring a combination of sportiness, comfort and a design developed jointly with Mannerfelt Design Team, the celebrated Swedish firm with a long track record in competition craft too. PIRELLI 42 has been created both for everyday use as a mid-range cruiser or as a shadow boat. Ted Mannerfelt, CEO and Design Director of the studio of the same name, made this comment about his contribution: “My team and I have worked to meet the Pirelli design approach and to make this boat stand out, enriching its sporty spirit with clean, elegant lines. We also had a special focus on the areas set aside for relaxation. The boat is easy to drive and can deliver remarkable performance”.

PIRELLI 42 is the first model in a new range targeted at owners in search of the perfect balance between elegance and adrenaline, and the shipyard will soon be launching a larger version too, the PIRELLI 52.

Diesel and petrol engines with a range of power ratings can be installed, up to a maximum 900 hp.

Launch of Riva 88’ Folgore: just back from a journey into the future.

The new Riva masterpiece made its first dip in the sea at the La Spezia shipyard.

Symbol of strength and innovation, she is the first new model to be launched by the Shipyard in 2020.

La Spezia, 26th of May 2020 – Splendid and dazzling as its name implies, Riva 88’ Folgore (“Lightning”) immediately won the hearts and minds of those who saw it cut through the waves.

The most eagerly awaited vessel by Riva enthusiasts was launched on Monday, 25th May in La Spezia, where the production facility dedicated to the 76-to-110-foot models is based.

It is the first launch of a new Riva model at the time of Covid-19 and celebrates the non-stop activity of all shipyards, confirming Ferretti Group in its role as a tenacious and solid builder of dreams and emotions.

“Riva 88’ Folgore looks like a vessel just back from a journey into the future: she is a dazzling flash of style, she is strength, she is performance, she is innovation.” – Commented Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group. “The launch of the first new model in 2020 represents a new Renaissance for the Ferretti Group, which restarts from Riva, brand becoming more and more a contemporary myth, the essence of Made in Italy and a tangible sign of a Country that starts again.”

Riva 88’ Folgore, the project of which was presented in January, perfectly complied with the deadline set for the construction time.

The new exterior design philosophy displays lines and elements inspired by the automotive world, combining luxury and sportiness.

In a happy balance between past and present, it combines the use of innovative materials like carbon with traditional stylistic elements such as mahogany inlays and steel decorations.

In the perspective of a design proposal that combines aesthetics and functionality, Riva 88’ Folgore offers the owner a completely reconceived stern concept, with the garage door that swings open and can be positioned in two ways: parallel to the waterline, to take advantage of a 6m²² beach club, and immersed, to allow the launch and landing of

the tender. The cockpit, on the other hand, is a large space of 22 m² that features a huge sofa area with table and also a bar unit with electrically opening marble top.

Another interesting element of style is the glass hardtop located on the superstructure, which opens up and can be tilted toward both the stern and bow, to let in fresh air during navigation or when at anchor.

The interiors have also been extensively renewed in style, created using precious materials such as wood, steel, marble and glass. They feature a number of particulars, including the option of three different layouts for the master cabin.

The sleeping area is completed by a VIP cabin at the bow and two double cabins, each with its own bathroom.

The area reserved to the galley remains separate, with a dedicated entrance to guarantee maximum service privacy.

Like all the Riva masterpieces of recent history, the 88’ Folgore is the result of the collaboration between Officina Italiana Design, the studio founded by Mauro Micheli along with Sergio Beretta, the Product Strategy Committee headed by engineer Piero Ferrari, and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

AZIMUT YACHTS LAUNCHES VIRTUAL LOUNGE AND E-BOAT SHOW

Innovation takes many forms. In a world in which isolation has become the norm and almost every major event around the world has been cancelled, the desire to create a meaningful platform to bring the yachting community together was the impetus behind two new initiatives developed by Azimut Yachts: the e-Boat Show series and the Azimut Yacht Virtual Lounge, at this link azimutyachts.com/virtual-lounge.

The inaugural e-Boat Show, running from 27 to 30 May, will provide an opportunity for yacht owners and boating enthusiasts to attend a digital event that replicates many of the key features of a conventional boat show. In addition to product exhibitions, visitors can take part in Live Chat sessions with Azimut Yacht sales managers and experts. They will also be available for scheduled one-to-one video calls in which clients, with the support of their local dealer, can discuss specific needs and obtain detailed information in person.

The location for the e-Boat Show is the brand-new Azimut Virtual Lounge, an innovative digital environment designed to ensure the yachting community continues to have instant and constant access to the Azimut Yacht world and its industry-leading products, technology and vision.

It will enable users to experience the Azimut Yachts world through instant access to a wealth of aspirational and informative material such as virtual tours, extensive technical information and both informative and inspiring videos by means of a simple click.

Other features include in-depth articles, live events, behind-the scenes videos and insights into topics ranging from designers to cutting-edge technological solutions.

Whilst both the Azimut Virtual Lounge and the e-Boat Show series spring from re-examining traditional practices and the need to adapt to a situation where meeting in person and travelling to events is suddenly not possible, both initiatives reflect Azimut Yacht’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. By creating these digital focal points for the global yachting community, the company not only strengthens its bond with clients and sea lovers around the world, but also takes another step forward in its drive to create a greener, safer environment for future generations.

CUSTOM LINE NAVETTA 30: WELCOME TO A NEW DIMENSION IN DESIGN

The eagerly awaited Custom Line Navetta 30 is the first yacht with an interior design scheme by the prestigious Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel architecture firm and exterior design by Filippo Salvetti.

There are some significant new technical and design features, involving unprecedented solutions for the brand.

A fresh chapter is about to begin in the Custom Line world: the new Navetta 30 yacht in the displacement line will be appearing at the first autumn boat shows for the season 2020- 2021. The future of the Navetta range has been outlined by the new super yacht thanks to an in-depth design process that took the seaworthiness, comfort, safety and customisation for which Custom Line has always been renowned and transferred them into a product that is even more ground-breaking, especially in terms of its style and interior design.

With a length of 28.43 m (93 ft) and a beam of 7.3 m (24 ft), it is a product of the partnership between the Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee, headed by engineer Piero Ferrari, and its Engineering Department. The Navetta 30 is also the first Custom Line vessel to boast a combination of exterior design by architect Filippo Salvetti and interior design by architecture firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel.

“The new Navetta 30 takes us into a new dimension in design”, explains Stefano de Vivo, the Ferretti Group’s Chief Commercial Officer. “Due to the huge success enjoyed by the new Navetta generation, we want every new project to have the sensational verve of a masterpiece. The Navetta 30 meets this requirement and takes a stunning step forward in the quest to offer Owners and their guests incomparable well-being”.

The classic, perfectly poised profile of the yacht places the emphasis on the way the lines stretch out horizontally, highlighting this aspect of the design so that the vertical connections between the decks almost go unnoticed.

In addition, for the first time the drop from the superstructure on the upper deck has been shortened near the glazed window of the Owner’s cabin, giving the yacht a more streamlined shape that is even racier and sportier. And that is not all: one of the most striking aspects of the new yacht is a gap between the hull and the superstructure, which has been created by raising the joints with the upper deck to form two clearly separate parts.

“The Custom Line displacement range has been expanded by the addition of the new Navetta 30, which blends generous volumes with an attractive, graceful design whose classic charms never grow old. It might have the capabilities of a ship, but it is full of harmoniously balanced visual appeal. It was essential to find the right balance between the hull and the superstructure and emphasise the way the external lines stretch out horizontally in order to add a little vivacious verve to this distinctive, complex creation”, states architect Filippo Salvetti.

The exterior design features large glazed windows in the hull and superstructure, with deck heights of more than 2 m and very spacious areas forward and aft. With finishes and furniture that match those insides, the outdoor spaces can be used not only for dining but also for relaxing and reflecting, thus providing unrivalled potential for people to get a little privacy and enjoy life on board. Great prominence has been given to the connections between inside and outside areas. The former has been opened up to the exterior as much as possible to offer broader, more panoramic views reaching out over the sea to the horizon.

This project breaks new ground in many significant ways, starting with the incredible volumes: its three decks are unprecedented for a yacht of this length. The 100% wide body configuration means that Owners and their guests have a full beam Owner’s suite and lounge on the main deck at their disposal, in addition to four VIP cabins and a crew area on the lower deck. There is a dining area and lounge on the upper deck, which provides access to the integrated bridge that is located further forward. The exceptionally large sun deck rounds off a line-up that is second to none.

To lay the foundations for it all, a brand-new hull has been created, with lines on the bottom that extend it forward. It is designed not only to host very large spaces but also to offer superb performance and minimize consumption.

The innovative interior design scheme was developed in partnership with Citterio Viel. The firm has given traditional maritime style – from the concept to the colour palette – a contemporary twist. The classic design of the curved lines on the furniture and window frames presents a modern outlook on nautical traditions, as does the use of teak. Its timeless allure is complemented by the vibrant “sporty chic” of carbon detailing, surfaces with quartz fibre combined with fibre glass to create customised textures, sophisticated lacquer and fabrics with ultramarine blue stripes.

“The interior design was developed in partnership with the engineers and architects who designed the hull of the yacht”, states Patricia Viel, co-founder of the Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel architecture firm. “BIM enables us to control every single volume perfectly, thus ensuring that the lighting and interior design schemes fit in flawlessly around the shape of the hull”.

The decision was made to reject a more residential outlook and avoid a clear distinction between the yacht itself and the items on board. Built-in furniture was specially designed and made using natural leather, solid wood and plywood, with some exquisite craftsmanship on display. The firm proposed furnishing solutions that were created exclusively for this yacht and two aesthetic approaches: a “textured mood” that was fresher and more youthful, and a less elaborate, more classical “wooden mood” in which wood was the predominant material.

Moving on from the materials and finishes, the interiors of the Navetta 30 – which is the smallest displacement yacht in the Custom Line range – were designed with a big focus on the use of space, in order to make the most of all of the volumes and all of the surface area that was available.

The Custom Line Navetta 30 is ideal for travelling long distances with low fuel consumption and performance at the top of its class. It comes with twin MAN I6 800 mhp engines as standard. They give it a top speed of 14 knots and a transatlantic range of 2,150 nautical miles at a fuel-efficient cruising speed of 10 knots. Two other twin engine options are available:

• Twin MAN V8 1000 mhp engines, as fitted on the first unit;

• Twin MAN V8 1200 mhp engines.

To give maximum comfort at anchor, the Navetta 30 is equipped with stabilising fins, which can be fitted in conjunction with Seakeeper systems on request.

Comfort and safety are top priorities for Custom Line, as underlined by the fact that the yacht falls within CE Class A and has volumes that have never been seen before in this segment of the market. This is thanks in part to unparalleled soundproofing based on targeted mathematical analysis of each and every source of noise on board, and the installation of a floating floor to reduce the transmission of sound from the engine room to the living areas, while also softening the sound of footsteps.

The Navetta 30 is under construction in the Super Yacht Yard in Ancona and it is due to make its official debut at the next Cannes Yachting Festival.
