Women in Film and TV take the spotlight at the 6th META Cinema Forum

Dubai, UAE – Women in Film and TV (WIFT) took the spotlight today at the 6th Edition of META Cinema Forum, the largest and most influential cinema convention in emerging markets at the prestigious Grand Hyatt in Dubai.

The day started with female panelists in a round table discussion on the business side of the film industry titled ‘Beyond the Glitz’. Panelists include Nancy Paton, Founder, Desert Rose Films and President of WIFTGCC,
Charlotte Louise Sutcliffe, Entertainment Lawyer, Associate at CWB and Head of Events at WIFTGCC, Ozge Conduroglu, Acquisition & Distribution Lead, The Plot Pictures MENA
and Ashleigh Potts, Marketing Director, Studio Distribution, Majid Al Futtaim LLC.

The ‘My Story My Voice’ panel with rising Female Emirati Filmmakers featured Emirati filmmakers Zainab Shaheen, Maitha Al Awadi, Eman Al Sayed and Sarraa Al Shehhi as panelists sharing their experiences.

This was followed by the WIFT MENA AWARDS sponsored by Rotana that celebrated the achievements of Women in Cinema after which, Nayla Al Khaja, Emirati Film Director talked about her journey and unveiling her new feature film.

During her speech, Nayla Al Khaja expressed her gratefulness for the unwavering support she received on her journey as a pioneer filmmaker. “It’s the encouragement and belief from those around me that have fueled my passion and determination to break barriers and tell stories that matter. Today’s award is not just a recognition of my work; it is a testament to the strength of our collective vision for more diverse voices to shine in the world of film and television.”

The afternoon saw Charlotte Jones, Senior Principal Analyst: Cinema & Movies at OMDIA do a presentation on MENA Cinema in the global theatrical landscape highlighting key trends and opportunities in 2023 and beyond. Tanya Easterman, Founder, Daiku UK also did a case study presentation on learning from proven pricing and promotional strategies to increase audience.

Over the years, META Cinema Forum has evolved into a pivotal gathering for cinema industry leaders, expanding its reach to encompass more regions, projects, and partnerships. It stands as the premier platform for the exchange of ideas, strategies, and innovations that are shaping the cinema sector in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the CIS region.

The Forum’s program was extensive, featuring a tradeshow, conference sessions, product presentations, special screenings, premieres, workshops, masterclasses, a Black-tie awards ceremony, networking reception, meetings areas, and content and cinema construction breakout sessions.

The theme for the 2023 edition “Growing the region’s cinema share,” reflected a commitment to foster growth and innovation in the industry. Topics covered included Regional Content Production and International Collaboration, Cinemas of the Future, and an in-depth look at emerging cinema trends and technologies with key cinema statistics and case studies on Rewarding Patrons and Effective Pricing Strategies.

Organized by GM Events, the META Cinema Forum was a two-day immersion in priceless knowledge, networking prospects, and a sneak peek into the future of cinema.

Colors for Peace exhibition opens at Silicon Central

Artissima Art Agency displays drawings from 135 countries across five continents.

Dubai, UAE: The global Colors for Peace’ exhibition that showcases the drawings of 4-11 years old children from 135 nations representing 5 continents opens at Silicon Central, Dubai’s latest lifestyle and shopping destination as part of the mall’s Ramadan programme.

Colors for Peace Association, founded in 2015 in support of the National Peace Park of Sant’Anna di Stazzema, is a non-profit association that promotes children’s art internationally to reduce cultural, social and economic distances between rich and poor countries.

The aim of the exhibition is for “the adult of tomorrow” to become the conscious bearer of a universal culture of peace, rejecting any logic of war and division of people. In pursuing its goals, Colors for Peace is faithful to the values of equality, respect for the neighbor, solidarity and justice.

The event was attended by Dr. Humaid Mohamed Redha Alansari, Art Patron & Legal Advocate, Dr. Robert Noriega, Art Patron & Diplomat from Venezuela, K P Thamban, Regional Director, Lulu Group International and Marcello Larizza, General Manager of Silicon Central.

The Song has been produced by Icon Art Production, a Dubai based production company and has been filmed over 3 days at 5 different locations. The Featured cast in the video includes local talents Waleed Khan and Sherif Thomas.

Be part of a historic three-day Event that brings art and cultures together and highlights achievements of the nation’s Art initiatives for Jubilee celebrations

Artissima Art Agency introduces the Dubai Art Expo with a record of over 500 artists from over 170 countries with the grand opening on 4th November at the Meydan Hotel with visual artists, followed by performances from five continents including Art Talks and Shows.

The event is held under the Patronage of H. E Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Cabinet Member and Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and curated by Aurela Cuku, Founder of Artissima Art Agency.

The historic event is an initiative from the UAE for the world artists to celebrate the golden jubilee of the UAE and will showcase exquisite art and foster mutual cooperation that builds bridges between nations. There will be a series of talks on art by renowned artists and performing arts personalities.

On the 5th of November, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhoods with Akaas Visual Arts will play host to the Association of Colours of Peace exhibition, a non-profit association that promotes children’s art internationally to reduce cultural, social and economic distances between rich and poor countries with messages of peace, tolerance and unity. Children from the UAE will be drawing for peace.

The President of ‘Colors for Peace’, Antonio Giannelli, Bernard Dika, Councillor at National Park for Peace Sant’Anna di Stazzema and Councillor for Innovation and Youth Policies of the Tuscan Region, Italy together with the President of Peace Run, Alfredo De Joannon will endorse the Peace torch to Angelo Baldini, the President at Cycling team MG K VIS. The cyclists will ride from the Meydan Hotel to Al Fahidi area for the awareness of the Colors for Peace initiative. This is followed by the show ‘Symbols of Peace and Love’ by the well-known Syrian artist Badie Jahjah.

On the 6th of November, there will be Art Talks with the Secretary General of the Foundation Centro Conservazione e Restauro “La Venaria Reale” Sara Abram in presence of Dr Platon Alexiou, Dr Mariana Turchio, Dr Najat Al Saeed and Jassim Al Awadhi. This is followed by the show “Caravaggio” by the well-known Italian artist Mimmo Centonze. There will also be additional  insights from Dr. Nasser Palangi and Dr. Carla Barbara Coppi.

We recently ventured to Wafi City to enjoy an encompassing entertainment experience at VOX Cinemas and Magic Planet that comes with mouth-watering F&B options, state-of-the-art 15-screen multiplex and Magic Planet, the regionally award-winning family entertainment centre.
