BENETTI AT THE FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW 2021

AMERICAN DEBUTS FOR THE MOTOPANFILO 37M AND OASIS 40M, ON THE CATWALK WITH 47-METER CUSTOM STEEL YACHT M/Y BACCHANAL

In the Superyacht Village at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Benetti will be showcasing, for the first time in the US, the new Motopanfilo 37M, a yacht that perfectly embodies the union between the brand’s signature style and the storied tradition of Loro Piana Interiors. Also making her transatlantic debut is the first Oasis 40M unit, M/Y Rebeca. The yacht with an adventurous look features the OASIS DECK™, the solution proposed by Benetti to enhance both contact with the water and the authenticity of an onboard lifestyle that marries exclusiveness with a more informal approach, as epitomised by the spectacular 90-square-meter multifunction beach area with wings that open out, just a few steps from the water.

Also at the show, the 47-meter custom M/Y Bacchanal brings together Benetti’s great yachting tradition and the Shipyard’s undisputed construction capabilities in the steel segment. For her size category, M/Y Bacchanal has a noteworthy new feature on the Sun Deck in the form of a tailor-made swimming pool clad in mosaic, while the Main Deck is characterised by a spacious in&out veranda featuring a custom full-width sliding door with frameless glass.

This year there will be three Benetti superyachts on show at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the world’s largest in-water event in the yachting industry. Now in its 62nd year, the boat show taking place from October 27 to 31 has always been a key event for Benetti because of the brand’s high standing with American owners, the result of constant technological innovation combined with the tradition and the elegance of ‘Made in Italy’ products, making this a strategically important market.

Making her first appearance in the USA, the new Motopanfilo 37M is the true star of the show, epitomising tradition projected into the future. A yacht built from composite materials and suspended in time, her design is rooted in Benetti navettas from the 1960s, which provide the inspiration for her gracious and refined elegance. For her large, light-filled spaces in constant visual contact with the sea, Loro Piana Interiors has chosen classic fabrics for summer on the water, with the leading role played by linen in shades of white, blue and malachite, used to decorate the interiors entirely and part of the exteriors.

Also inspired by 1960s’ yachting tradition, the interiors by Lazzarini Pickering Architetti successfully marry that classic design approach with modern technical and style solutions. The exterior lines by Francesco Struglia, in partnership with Benetti, successfully echo the vintage style of the period, joining hull and superstructure to create a single harmonious element that gives the clean-cut profile an elongated and austere form. All these and other features won the 37-meter yacht the Best Innovation category award at the World Yacht Trophies presented during the last Cannes Yachting Festival.

On show with the Motopanfilo 37M will be Rebeca, the first unit of the multiple-award winning Oasis 40M model, which successfully combines a dynamic and informal approach to life on board, in constant contact with the sea, with a chic and sophisticated style. This yacht – which won the Best Layout and Best Displacement Motoryacht prizes in her size category at the World Superyacht Awards – is perfect for owners who want to explore new destinations, pampered by an informal sense of luxury. With exterior styling by UK design firm RWD and interiors by New York-based Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture (winners of the Interior Designer – House & Residential award at the DNA Paris Awards 2021), Oasis 40M is the first yacht to feature the new OASIS DECK™, offering 90 square metres of openness just a few steps from the water. The yacht’s stand-out features are wings that open out to increase the available space in contact with the water but sheltered from the waves, the magnificent swimming pool tailored to fit a free deck area close to both the water and the interiors, and the 270-degree view aft, also from the lounge.

The bridge of Oasis 40M is designed as a multifunctional space with full-height glazing and a futuristic helm station from which to enjoy the cruising experience to the full.

Alongside the two new fiberglass models, and making her first boat show appearance, is M/Y Bacchanal, a 47-meter custom yacht with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

The exterior styling developed by the shipyard is intentionally sleek and pared down. The interiors are a joint effort between Mauricio Gómez de Tuddo, the architect chosen by the Mexican owner for his second Benetti, and the Benetti Interior Style Department, who worked together to give the project an allure that is international but underpinned by a strong ‘Made in Italy’ imprint, given by a choice of brands that includes Minotti, Flexform, Giorgetti, Rimadesio, Poltrona Frau and Exteta.

Continuity of space, the guiding thread in the yacht’s development, is emphasised by the materials: the style of the exterior teak flooring is reprised in the interiors by the wengé wood parquet featuring special 60mm-wide boards in the main salon, the owner’s bathroom, the captain’s cabin and the Sky Lounge. Also contributing to the boat’s sense of airiness is the Thassos marble in the guest cabin bathrooms: a white, almost crystalline material that covers the floor, walls and shower tray, creating an interesting contrast with the black granite chosen for the tops.

Benetti will be at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 27 to 31 in the Superyacht Village, 2150 SE 17th St, Tent #14

NetApp Expands Hybrid Cloud Solutions Portfolio to Unlock Best of Cloud

New Hybrid Cloud Updates Fuel Digital Transformation, Enabling Organizations to Optimize Operations for Cost, Scalability, Agility and Speed

Today at INSIGHT 2021, NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP), a global cloud-led, data-centric software company, announced new additions and enhanced capabilities across its hybrid cloud portfolio to help organizations modernize their IT infrastructures and accelerate digital transformation. Delivering new secure ways to consume and operate data services on-premises and in the cloud, NetApp hybrid cloud solutions make it simpler for enterprise customers to put their data to work wherever and whenever they need it.

As the only solutions provider with native integrations for the world’s largest public clouds, NetApp’s industry leading ONTAP® software continues to serve as the foundation for hybrid cloud. With the latest release of ONTAP, NetApp is introducing enhanced protection against ransomware, expanded data management capabilities, and NVMe/TCP support for accelerated performance. The company is also announcing new digital wallet capabilities for NetApp Cloud Manager and enhanced data services for simplified administration across a hybrid cloud, more flexible consumption options to better control costs, as well as new Professional Services offerings to help customers unlock the full value of on-premises and hybrid cloud resources.

“The promised benefits of migrating to the cloud may be profound, but many IT departments are still working to overcome on-premises challenges, like managing the complexity and costs of moving data, protecting against ransomware, and ensuring reliable performance for critical applications,” said Brad Anderson, Executive Vice President, Hybrid Cloud Group at NetApp. “As the hybrid cloud specialist, NetApp can help enterprises move their digital transformation efforts forward to deliver business results faster and within budget—whether they are still developing a strategy or in the middle of executing large-scale migrations.”

“IDC’s research shows that approximately 70% of enterprise IT customers plan to modernize their storage infrastructures in the next two years to support next-generation workloads. But the key operational advantage will be in optimizing workload placement across traditional on-premises and cloud environments,” said Eric Burgener, Research Vice President, Infrastructure Systems Group at IDC. “As an industry leader with years of innovation and expertise delivering hybrid cloud solutions, NetApp is uniquely positioned to help enterprises transition to hybrid cloud models to achieve the scalability and flexibility they need to deliver critical data services and workload capabilities that drive business value.”

NetApp’s latest portfolio innovations announced today include:

  • ONTAP Data Management Software Enhancements: The latest release of ONTAP enables enterprises to autonomously protect against ransomware attacks based on machine learning with integrated preemptive detection and accelerated data recovery. The new release also delivers enterprise-grade performance for SAN and modern workloads with NVMe/TCP support, expanded object storage capabilities, and simplified management. In addition, this latest ONTAP release will power the upcoming NetApp AFF A900, the next-generation high-resiliency all-flash system for business-critical workloads.
  • Enhanced Data Services: With new digital wallet capabilities available in NetApp Cloud Manager, customers can benefit from greater mobility and more visibility into usage of data service licenses across a hybrid cloud, with prepayment of credits enabling streamlined deployment to avoid procurement hassles. Additional updates include enhancements to NetApp Cloud Backup and Cloud Data Sense services, simplified deployment of Cloud Volumes ONTAP with new customer-ready templates, fully embedded Active IQ, and deeper integrations with NetApp Cloud Insights and ONTAP software to support Kubernetes workloads.
  • More Flexible Consumption Options: NetApp Keystone Flex Subscription, an on-premises storage-as-a-service offering with native cloud integration, continues to gain momentum with customers. The offering is now supported on four continents—encompassing petabytes of capacity within just under one year of availability. NetApp is now offering a new freemium service tier for Cloud Volumes ONTAP, providing customers with access to a fully featured, perpetual license to use ONTAP in the cloud for workloads needing less than 500GB of storage. This consumption flexibility gives organizations the freedom to use enterprise-grade data services for small workloads such as Kubernetes clusters at no initial cost. An organization only needs to convert to a subscription when the workload matures and scales.

“As a leading IT consultancy specializing in cloud infrastructure and services, our clients are increasingly working with us to reduce CAPEX spending by taking advantage of cloud-like consumption models for their on-premises environments,” said Kent Christensen, Virtual Practice Director for cloud and data center transformation at Insight. “NetApp Keystone helps us provide a truly flexible consumption model for enterprises, serving as a platform to provide business-critical data services across the entire hybrid cloud data fabric, which will be a huge boon for our growing client base.”

  • More Accessible Hybrid Cloud Expertise: NetApp is also introducing new Support and Professional Services offerings to make it even easier to access experts for step-by-step guidance as they transition to hybrid cloud. With SupportEdge Advisor for Cloud, NetApp is extending its data center support model to cloud services with rapid, direct access to trained specialists. NetApp Flexible Professional Services (FlexPS) is also available for customers that require on-demand and ongoing support as they transition to a hybrid cloud. With this new subscription-based offering, organizations can get the professional help they need to design and build a data fabric strategy, implement solutions, and optimize their hybrid cloud with predictable costs and avoid procurement delays.

SonicWall Returning Choice to Customers by Securing Any Mix of Cloud, Hybrid and Traditional Networks

Company’s virtual offerings, cloud services match with on-premises deployments to solve real-world security challenges for SMBs, enterprises, governments and MSSPs

SonicWall, a global leader in physical, virtual and cloud-focused cybersecurity solutions, is emphasizing the return of customer choice for securing and scaling a mix of cloud, hybrid and traditional environments.

“Too many times organizations have been forced to change the way they operate in order to secure access to their networks, data, devices and people,” said SonicWall President and CEO Bill Conner. “We’ve been busy innovating cloud and virtual solutions that help organizations secure complex blends of networks, including virtual, hybrid, cloud and on-premises deployments.”

SonicWall’s growing virtual, cloud and hybrid offerings leverage the best of the company’s Boundless Cybersecurity approach to return deployment choices to the customer while solving real-world use cases faced by SMBs, enterprises, governments and MSSPs. SonicWall’s core cloud solution offerings:

  • Solve security and connectivity challenges for cloud-native and hybrid environments.
  • Secure access to cloud and on-premises applications and virtualized workloads through modern zero-trust capabilities.
  • Protect increasingly distributed and remote workforces through powerful virtualized security layers and zero-touch capabilities.

“The modern IT environment is rife with complexity that drives security and connectivity challenges, which can be further complicated when organizations require hybrid environments comprised of physical, virtual and SaaS offerings, and private and public cloud solutions,” said IDC Research Director Chris Rodriguez. “Cybersecurity vendors that support these deployment options add tremendous financial and operational flexibility for their customers, and are also well suited for organizations that are in different stages of their cloud journey.”

SonicWall Solves Today’s Complex Security, Connectivity Challenges

SonicWall’s cloud innovation is driven by the need to solve complex security and connectivity challenges by delivering power, flexibility and choice to customers and partners. SonicWall has collaborated with organizations worldwide to build some of the most secure and robust hybrid networks.

“The University of Pisa connects and secures a wide and distributed network of systems, users, applications and services to ensure our institution can provide the highest levels of on-campus and remote learning,” said University of Pisa CIO Antonio Cisternino. “It’s imperative that we’re able to use the same trusted security controls, regardless of how we deploy them. Through their growing range of virtual, cloud and hybrid offerings, SonicWall gives us that choice and flexibility without sacrificing the security standards we require to protect and enable students, faculty and staff.”

SonicWall ensures organizations are able to set their own deployment paths and cloud migration timelines — not forcing them into a rigid vendor-first approach. By providing cloud-based (e.g., virtual firewall and VPN), as-a-service (e.g., ZTNA, FWaaS) and on-premises (e.g., firewalls, VPN) options, SonicWall empowers customers to deploy what works for their architecture — and adopt cloud transformation at their pace.

These real-world hybrid environments are secured using a cohesive mix of virtual, cloud and on-premises offerings, including SonicWall NSv virtual firewalls, Cloud Edge Secure Access zero-trust security, appliance-free SMA virtual private networks (VPN), and Cloud App Security to protect SaaS applications.

Organizations are able to further scale and extend distributed environments by simultaneously deploying security across multiple locations — with minimal IT support — using Zero-Touch Deployment capabilities.

Implement Zero-Trust Security in as Few ‘15 Minutes’

With the influx of work-from-home access, companies require a simple and secure way of connecting their workforce to resources they need — wherever they’re located.

SonicWall embraces zero-trust security as a tenet of cybersecurity in a perimeter-less, cloud-first reality. SonicWall helps organizations easily and quickly connect remote users to on-premises resources, cloud-hosted applications, branch offices and public clouds.

In as few as 15 minutes, SonicWall Cloud Edge Secure Access — the company’s zero-trust network access (ZTNA) offering — quickly scales security beyond the perimeter through modern zero-trust principles. This results in logical trust zones that authenticate every user, device and location for secure access to only the specific services and resources they require.

Simplify Threat Detection, Visibility & Response

New in SonicWall Capture Security Center 3.0, Unified Insights brings analytics from across SonicWall products, including physical and virtual firewalls, wireless access points, switches and endpoint security products into a single, customizable dashboard. This provides a central, easy-to-use location for monitoring environments and troubleshooting incidents, eliminating the need to multi-task across different consoles.

Paired with SonicWall Analytics, Capture Security Center 3.0 can transform large volumes of data (spanning tens of thousands of firewall nodes) into actionable insights and defensive actions against hidden risks across networks, applications and users — all with the visibility, precision, speed and scale of the cloud.

Integrate Cloud-delivered Threat Protection Across Hybrid Environments

Regardless of deployment strategy, SonicWall ensures organizations can identify and block both known and unknown cyberattacks across traditional networks, public and private cloud infrastructure, and virtual environments by seamlessly integrating SonicWall physical and virtual firewalls when and where it makes sense for your business. The foundation of this ecosystem integrates with SonicWall’s cloud-based Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) multi-engine sandbox service to stop advanced cyberattacks, including never-before-seen malware and ransomware.

Mike Miller Smith, CEO Aerobility said: “I am delighted that Project Able has been honoured in this esteemed category.   We support anyone with any disability, literally giving them wings. We do this because it challenges our flyers to ask themselves, if I can fly an aeroplane, what else can I do? The effects of learning to fly are felt far beyond the airfield, with greater self-confidence and an enhanced awareness of personal ability.”

That a small charity from the UK, should share a stage with such impressive winners is humbling and perhaps reflective of one of our core beliefs that experiencing the magic and wonder of flight, makes anything possible.

We would like to thank Molly McMillin, Managing Editor Business Aviation and the judging panel at Aviation Week Network for this award and for shining the light on our charity and disabled flying in particular. I would also like to thank our superb team at Aerobility including all our volunteers, whose continued support and dedication have made this possible.”

Aerobility’s Project Able, highlighted in Aviation Week’s June 2nd issue, Aerobility Launches Grob Program To Increase Disabled Flying | Aviation Week Network, is returning 60  Grob G109 motor gliders to service, each featuring new Garmin avionics, MT Propeller and Rotax Engines.

Profits from the sale of surplus aircraft will support disabled flying at Aerobility, which takes to the skies with up to 1,000 individuals a year. This includes people with disabilities and serious illnesses, as well as wounded, injured and sick members of the UK’s Armed Forces community. The remaining aircraft will join Aerobility’s fleet, lifting capacity from 1,000 to 2,600 individuals a year.

“With availability for sale globally, our ambition is to inspire a new generation of Grob pilots and encourage pilot training schools, gliding clubs, aviation enthusiasts and others to seriously consider purchasing a Grob G109 ‘Able’ aircraft,” said Mike Miller Smith.  “This recognition is a massive boost to our endeavours.”

Project Able has been gaining momentum in recent weeks. The first completed aircraft made its first public appearance in the UK in August and is scheduled for delivery to its customer in two weeks’ time.  A second will follow shortly.

With a complete airframe overhaul, state-of-the-art Garmin avionics, new Rotax engine and MT Propeller, Grob G109 Able’s performance and handling is hugely enhanced, whilst the fuel consumption is significantly reduced. The updated and re-certified variant of the Grob G109B makes for an exciting and environmentally friendly way to take to the skies. The aircraft is certified to run on the latest biofuels.

Parmigiani Fleurier’s 25th Anniversary

Time Is Flying

In 1996, Michel Parmigiani’s watchmaking activities gave rise to a new brand, a new credo and new aesthetics. Parmigiani Fleurier was born out of his passion for watchmaking, classical culture, the observation of nature and his experience in restoring the world’s most sophisticated timepieces and automata. 25 years later, Parmigiani Fleurier turns a new leaf. A new contemporary timepiece collection, the Tonda PF, renews its enduring devotion to bringing sense and beauty into the world through watches.

The year is 1996 and mechanical watchmaking is in limbo. Here and there, a few remaining brands and a handful of trailblazers are keeping alive the art of crafting complicated timepieces. Michel Parmigiani, based out of Fleurier in the Swiss Jura mountains, has already been at it for twenty years. Instead of choosing architecture as a career path, he had counter-intuitively elected to become a watchmaker at a time when that art was already starting to dwindle. Such was his will to preserve the wide-ranging craft, its techniques and the timepieces that stemmed from it, which he so revered.

At the head of a highly advanced restoration workshop, he handles the finest clocks, pocket watches and mechanical objects there are, ranging from the Renaissance to the 1930’s. He is also a bespoke, high-end manufacturer working for prestigious brands.

Building up on that rare and thorough expertise, he and his main customer, the Sandoz family, owner of a peerless timepiece collection, decide to take this knowledge and put it to new use. Thus is born Parmigiani Fleurier.

Steady Credo

Based on a contemporary and understated approach to high-end watchmaking, Parmigiani Fleurier strikes the right balance between appeal and poise, abundant details and streamlined design. Rooted in a wealth of experience and expertise, the Toric, Kalpa and Tonda collections are made for connoisseurs who understand that showing is not being. The art of enjoying a rare, low-key and sophisticated timepiece is a particular brand of self-confident hedonism.

Parmigiani Fleurier constantly demonstrates that it is wiser beyond its years, young enough to keep creating a continuous stream of groundbreaking designs, movements and concepts. Mastery and excellence in craft are the keys to its lasting relevance, both in the modern and classical genres.

Track Record

On May 29th, 1996, in the Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne, the watchmaking founding acts of the Parmigiani Fleurier brand took place. A total of 52 timepieces were introduced, ranging from simple to the highly complicated and including the visionary Toric Perpetual Calendar Retrograde. The bar was set, high, and for 25 years, Parmigiani Fleurier has created several timepiece collections, ranging from sport-chic to classical, from slim to highly complicated while staying true to its original ethos: imperceptible refinement, entire dedication to exclusivity, modern permanence.

Over the course of 25 years, Parmigiani Fleurier has created over thirty in-house movements. Some of them extremely elaborate and groundbreaking, like the 5 Hz, integrated split seconds, solid-gold, skeletonized, Caliber PF361 fitted in the Tonda Chronor Anniversaire. Some of them slim and streamlined, such as the 2.6 mm thick PF700. Some of them unconventional and ahead of their time, such as the first caliber developed under the Parmigiani Fleurier brand, the eight-day, twin-barrel, tonneau-shaped PF110. And as time has passed, proficiency in calendars has become the signature of the Parmigiani Fleurier workshops.

Parmigiani Fleurier’s set of watchmaking skills extends to the chronograph, to the split seconds chronograph, and to tourbillons. High frequency, high power reserves, high complications, minimal case heights, minimal aesthetics, Parmigiani Fleurier runs a wide gamut with a single thread: rarity and excellence. And to fittingly celebrate its 25th Anniversary, Parmigiani Fleurier launches a new elegant and contemporary collection designed for purists, the Tonda PF.

A Purist’s Delight for Those in the Know

With a judicious sense of detail, pattern, shape and curve, the Tonda PF is Parmigiani Fleurier’s latest and most forward-looking collection. Aimed at the most enlightened part of the watch-loving community, it showcases the brand’s excellence and focuses on contemporary design. These new timepieces take attention to craft, complication and streamlined aesthetics to a new high. Everywhere the eye lands on a Tonda PF, there’s a particular texture, form, detail to be seen and enjoyed.

This is not ornament, ostentation or opulence. This is a mature, sartorial approach to watchmaking. Seven integrated bracelet models make up the collection, including a slim two-hander with date, a 5 Hz integrated chronograph, an annual calendar with retrograde date, and culminating in a 25-piece limited edition integrated split seconds chronograph whose case, bracelet and dial are made of platinum.

Past and Future

As many of Parmigiani Fleurier’s creations, the Tonda PF’s design is driven by the Fibonacci sequence. This mathematical formula, associated with the golden ratio, has been at the root of virtually everything Michel Parmigiani has ever created. It’s the guideline of the size of hands and counters, the curvature of lugs, the guilloché patterns, case proportions and countless design details that suffuse the Parmigiani Fleurier aesthetics.

This attachment to the classical canons of aesthetics is prolonged by today’s streamlined luxury, discretely hedonistic approach that gave rise to the Tonda PF. The collection is the brainchild of Parmigiani Fleurier’s new CEO, Guido Terreni.

“In the last 25 years, Parmigiani Fleurier has been able to create mechanical art at the highest level, thanks to the unique mastery of Michel Parmigiani. We intend to transmit this powerful heritage to the watchmaking purists of tomorrow. An uncompromising crowd of a select few, seeking personal hedonistic pleasure, who are savvy in watchmaking, appreciate sartorial craft on their timepieces, and have a strong sense of style and refinement,” says Mr. Terreni.

Where Michel Parmigiani brings heritage, skill and knowledge, Guido Terreni brings sartorial allure, and a sense of contemporary luxury in tune with the times we live in. Using 25 years of rich history is the root of Parmigiani Fleurier’s next 25.
