Check out the ‘luxury’ facet of India

Shereen Shabnam Royal India

India’s fastest-growing luxury segments encompassing travel, hospitality, wellness, healthcare, education, fashion and lifestyle domains are coming together for an exclusive trade show in Dubai on December 4 and 5 to showcase the comparatively lesser-known ‘luxury’ facets of India among the Emiratis, Arabs and HNIs Asians.

The 2nd edition of Royal India Luxury Show will take place on an exhibition space of 22,000 square feet at Dubai’s luxury icon, Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The two-day show will take place daily from 10 am to 6 pm and entry is free to the public. According to its World Luxury Goods Market Study, tourists are changing their consumption habits and seeking out new destinations for unique experiences and luxury.

India cannot be explained but should be experienced. The 21st century India is full of luxury experiences. India’s rich history is replete with opulence and grandeur and for centuries it has been a preferred destination to revitalize and rejuvenate the body and soul. India offers a diverse portfolio of unique and memorable experiences.

Emiratis and other Arabs have comparatively very little exposure about the India’s luxury element. Most are aware about India being the Land of Grandeur, but did not have better opportunities to learn about the luxury experiences that awaits them. India offers tourists unique experiences with its natural beauty, vivid festivals, exotic beaches and architectural marvels.

Luxury is the fastest growing segment with the visitors being offered tailor-made, refined and bespoke holidays experiences for individuals, couples and groups.

The exhibitors include Incredible India (Ministry of Tourism, Government of India), Cox & Kings – the longest established travel company in the world, Cox & Kings Weddings, Ramoji Film City, Air Aura, MEHAIR, Sansha Spa, Woodland, EMGEE Developers- Anantam, Jaypee Green Golf Course, Six Senses Spa, UAE Exchange, Sobha developers Ltd, Rocky S, Archana Kochhar, Neeta Lulla, Monapali, Rohit Verma and Satya Paul.

Harley-Davidson Open House unveils 2015 models

Harley Shereen Shabnam

My first All About Wheels update as soon I got off the plane from Los Angeles was about Harley-Davidson Middle East and North Africa (MENA)’s Open House Day in UAE – it included an exciting array of events hosted by the local dealerships for the Harley-Davidson community in each city and launched Harley-Davidson’s 2015 line up of motorcycles in Fujairah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai….pity I was not able to be part of it but as they say, when Hollywood calls, you just have to go!

Fujairah hosted the first of the three with over 250 riders and aficionados gathering at the dealership for breakfast before setting out for the first Fujairah Bike Week and Shukran Khalifa Parade. The second Open House was held in Abu Dhabi where over 120 enthusiasts gathered to see the new models of 2015 followed by an unveiling of the Street Glide® Special at the Toast of Americas Festival that took place at the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club.

On October 31, 2014, while I was busy in Hollywood, the Open House Day had 250 attendees at the Dubai dealership where they saw Harley-Davidson’s 2015 line of iconic motorcycles with some refreshments followed by a ride out to the Gulf Bike Week. A grand unveiling of the CVO Street Glide® 2015 took place at the dealership and at Gulf Bike Week. A highlight of the day was Harley-Davidson leading the Thunder Parade – a signature part of the Gulf Bike Week that saw riders from across the region come down to participate.

The 2015 range has Harley-Davidson hard on the throttle of innovation, combining world class aerodynamics and superb audio with advanced ergonomic comfort. Propelled by Project RUSHMORE’s customisations and the buzz of Project LiveWire’s combination of heritage and technology, the 2015 line up is carefully crafted for maximum enjoyment of the open road.

Luxury Swiss Maison unveils stunning collection of watches

Pic 6-Gilda_Special_EditionRGB

Last week while running around preparing to travel to Los Angeles for a Hollywood Premiere of All You Need is Love, I stumble my tired soul into Dubai mall to meet with Eberhard & Co., renowned Swiss master creators of technically complex timepieces where they were unveiling a stunning collection of novelty pieces for fine watch lovers in the region.

Presenting this exquisite collection of highly exclusive master creations at the Manufacture’s exclusive point of sale at the Damas Les Exclusives boutique in Dubai Mall was Eberhard & Co. CEO, Mario Peserico. A delightful soul himself who was most gracious about me being late, he explained how each one of the unveiled timepieces represented different facets of the skills and innovativeness of their master craftsmen.

They certainly are outstanding examples of high-end mechanical watchmaking. The Novelties Collection includes creative reworking of some of the Manufacture’s renowned classics including the new Contograf, a re‐edition of the 1960’s classic creation of the same name, which was an emblem of its era thanks to its innovative features.

Most of these original features have been maintained in the new 2014 edition, but there is no shortage of innovative details: the new ceramic bezel with unidirectional rotation serves as a frame for the tachymeter scale inspired by automotive design. The case back is screwed‐in like in the original version and contains the inscription “Tribute to Contograf ‐ 1960s”.

Pic3-CONTOGRAF 1960s

The date window at 6 o’clock has kept its particular trapezoidal shape. The innovations include the new metallic bracelet Chassis and an original black leather strap with a “red arrow” embroidered detail. The deployment buckle Déclic (Patented) is available as an accessory. The 8147 calibre (base ETA 7750 13¼) guarantees the reliability and precision that have made Eberhard & Co. one of the points of reference for mechanical chronographs.

Eberhard & Co. is offering the svelte Traversetolo watch in two new versions:   – a version with a white dial and a white second’s counter highlighted by “azurée” finish and a black profile. The profile of the minutes hand is also black and has an “azurée” finish. The hour markers stand out as they are rhodium plated, rounded and inlaid with black superluminova, while the upper part has a diamond-shaped radius. A second version is black, with a black seconds counter highlighted by “azurée” finish and a white profile. The profile of the minutes counter is also white.

Gilda, the timepiece that exudes feminine charm and provides the complete expression of the watchmaker’s refined and elegant world is presented in a new floral version. Gilda Floral has soft, harmonious lines enveloping a white mother of pearl dial with a delicate floral motif, finished with beautiful sapphires. In this new version the bezel, covered with 66 enchanting blue sapphires, frames the dial with a total of 112 precious stones and an elliptical case in white gold. The result is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and style.

Eberhard & Co.’s brand new interpretation of the Extra-fort model produced in an edition that is limited to just 150 pieces, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of noted Italian author Gabriele D’Annunzio’s birth. An automatic chronograph with elegant and harmonious lines, a 41 mm steel case and a face that reflects the great personality of the man to whom it is dedicated: black with white contrasts, personalised with the author’s signature, the 150th anniversary date and the famous motto “Ardisco non ordisco” – in a Liberty style font – adorning the profile of the 30 minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. D’Annunzio’s signature is also etched on the case back, which is closed with 6 screws. 50 m waterproof, this special Extra-fort is available with a crocodile strap or “Chalin” steel bracelet.

Chrono 4 is the first and only chronograph in the history of watchmaking with four aligned counters. This Registered Design is an aesthetic and functional innovation and represents a technical revolution thanks to the device developed and patented by Eberhard & Co. with sophisticated complexity. Indeed the entire mechanism operates using no fewer than 53 rubies. Never before had minutes, hours, 24 hours and seconds been arranged horizontally in a linear progression. Never before had reading the time felt so extraordinarily natural.

Eberhard & Co. now presents this all-time classic in three new versions. The first version has a white face, 4 white counters with a contrasting black outline and azuré finishing; the second version has a black face, 4 black counters with a contrasting white outline and azuré finishing; the third is a rugged all-black version with a black face, 4 black counters with a contrasting silvery outline and azuré finishing, as well as a red hand for 24- hour counter.

Visiting forensic scientist, Professor Valerie Corfield, explains the intricacies of the DNA spiral to young visitors to the Bahrain Science Centre during a ‘DNA Detective’ workshop

Bahrain Science Centre, part of the Ministry of Social Development in Bahrain, is  currently hosting a real forensic scientist from the Medical Research Council in South Africa, Dr Valerie Corfield.

Professor Valerie Corfield is a retired medical researcher who is very well known in South Africa for her involvement in informal education on medical issues, including HIV-Aids and the use of DNA in forensic science and genetics. She is holding ‘DNA Detective’ workshops and one ‘DNA Murder Mystery’, which will allow visitors to get involved and discover the wonder of DNA. She will also do staff training on how to use DNA in teaching about forensics and genetics.

The ‘DNA Detective Workshop’ is suitable for visitors aged 9 years and older and the ‘Murder Mystery’ is suitable for visitors 12 years and older.

Later today, a ‘murder’ in a make-believe space ship (BSC 13) will be enacted at the Bahrain Science Centre this Thursday evening and everyone is invited to come along and help solve the ‘crime’.

The Commander of the Space Ship BSC 13, Astro Naut, is mysteriously murdered and every member of the crew is a suspect.

Is the murderer Cosmo Naut, the jealous younger brother of the Commander, or Mike Apollo, a space tourist, or the unhappy wife of the Commander, Countfore Naut, the pompous and unbearable Max D Oderant, sponsor of the space tourists, or the heavily armed Flight Chef Para Noyd? Perhaps it is the programmer of the androids, Maida Blunder, or even one of the androids itself, C3PO. Or maybe it is Detective Conan from the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, who is a guest onboard of ultra rich Lady Bonnie Bigbux, herself a prime suspect?

5 Shine Secrets to Let Your Inner Star Shine Bright

Jamal Hammadi – Co-creator of Sunsilk Shine & Strength Range

Jamal Hammadi – Co-creator of Sunsilk Shine & Strength Range

Jamal Hammadi, Sunsilk Shine & Strength co-creator and stylist to the stars, believes natural hair products create natural glow for that superstar look and feel. So when your big break comes along, whether it’s a job interview or a trip abroad, you can ditch sweaty palms and let your inner light shine bright with a few of Jamal’s shine secrets. Because when you feel like a superstar, you are one….check out some awesome tips from Jamal below:

 Secret #1. Keep It Real

Oils are a natural part of our hair’s make-up, so they’re the obvious nourishing ingredient to infuse hair with radiant shine. Products with natural ingredients such as argan, almond and camellia oil are extremely beneficial for the growth of healthy hair. Tea tree oil can also help maintain the balance of your hair’s natural oils.

TIP: For fabulously soft hair, this recipe is a great and natural DIY alternative: blend egg white, cucumber and a few spoons of coconut oil in a mixer, apply on hair and leave for 40 minutes, then wash out. You’ll love how soft your hair feels!

Secret #2. Keep It Simple

Less is more! Go back to basics as much as possible – avoid hair gels and limit how much you use hair spray. Be careful not to over-colour when dying, as this can rob hair of its natural shine and texture. Using a hot iron to straighten is also better than chemical straightening, which can weaken hair due to chemicals used in the process.

TIP: If you brush your hair before sleep, use a wooden comb to untangle knots rather than a normal plastic one, as these lead to hair breakage. Wooden combs can activate the hair’s natural oil secretion, which lends moisture to the hair. And remember to be gentle when drying your hair after cleaning – rough treatment damages cuticles and roots.

Secret #3. It’s All About Moisture

Moisture is so important for bouncy, thick and shiny hair. But everything we do to our hair depletes moisture: using the wrong shampoo, blow-drying, colouring or straightening.

TIP: Just remember, lack of moisture is curable – you can replenish your natural hair texture with moisturisers and nutrients. You should also rinse with cold water after washing, because this seals the hair cuticles, locking in moisture and shine. And don’t forget to oil your hair every now and then, ensuring to oil the ends as well – argan oil is perfect.

Secret #4. Shea Butter for Sheer Beauty

One of my favourite natural ingredients is shea butter. It provides the perfect amount of nutrients to add that natural sheen. It also protects your hair from the sun and contains vitamins A and E, which are beneficial for dry and sun exposed skin and hair.

TIP: Vitamin A smoothes and has hydrating properties, while vitamin E is vital for luscious shine and is found in foods such as avocados, berries and nuts. It improves scalp circulation and helps decrease greyness.

Secret #5. Love Your Body, Love The Look

Each strand has to be healthy from the inside to glow with its full brilliance. To achieve this, you need to nourish each hair individually. But you also need a positive attitude and a well-balanced diet!

TIP: Fish and fish oils are key for healthy hair. You can keep your locks nourished with lots of water, vegetables and foods rich in fatty acids such as salmon and beans – and make sure you up your iron intake. You should eat lots of good proteins and vegetables. Iron will give hair a fantastic shine!

I would certainly like Jamal to be my stylist for my next big event 🙂

Another shoe party at Vince Camuto

CASSIVI001_Shereen Shabnam - AED560

My shoe fetish just turned a notch higher as Vince Camuto transitional 2013 brings three new trends, each with an emphasis on ornate detailing, mixed media, jeweled embellishments as well as exotic fabrications.

I realise that after the hassle of looking for a 4 bedroom villa (which the man of the house insists needs an extra room for my shoes) should keep me away from retail therapy but one look at the shoes was enough to melt my heart. I’m sure I could convert the garage into a walk in shoe closet. Western Frontier, Deco Nouveau and Star-Studded Event, each with its own attention to fabrication, ornamentation and modern silhouette, respectively; offer complimentary collections that pay homage to beauty of history in art and craftsmanship.

Western Frontier is the most classic of the transitional collection trends, featuring cut-out, western scalloping, embellished overlays, horse-shoe buckles, starburst studs and ornate harnesses.  For day, standout styles include assorted ankle boots with a western flair in Egyptian blue, true black, smoke taupe, or tie dye, in multi snake or tonal print snake featuring embroidery detail to reflect the craftsmanship of the artisans of the Southwest.

Evening shoes transition seamlessly; including mid-height open toed sandals in soft calf or tonal snake print leather in black, brown or beachwood, saddle.

Star-Studded Event is a more decorated collection, rich in detail, featuring all-over micro beaded leather prints and mini-studded embellishment.  Standout styles include, for day, teal, bamboo and black loafers in luxe true suede and evening styles include ecru, smoke taupe and black vintage goat and true suede open toed booties with ornate beads and studs.  Low-heeled woven scalloped suede sandals in a toasted brown exude a rustic glamour that are both comfortable and enviable.

Deco Nouveau, the most sophisticated trend of the season, offers more feminine silhouettes, including styles such as pointed toe sling-back and mirror metallic multi-strapped low-heeled sandals, both in steel leather, for day.  For evening, a new single-sold pump silhouette, with a slender high-heel, in purple jewel and red wine true suede, is both refreshingly sleek and fashion-forward.  Deco-diamond strappy high-heeled sandals in steel and black mirror metallic and exotic snake, as well as satin and metallic jeweled caged ankle strap evening sandals, are inspired by modern architecture and construction.

I reckon I need to start looking for that ace real estate agent who can find me that perfect villa with a walk in shoe closet. Know anyone???

Indulging in Pink at Nayomi

Nayomi_Carla Shereen

Shopping for a fashionable sister about to get married is a fun experience but in the process, you end up falling in love with stuff in shops you normally don’t go in regularly….Nayomi is one such shop where no matter what mood you are in, there is always something pink in there that lifts up your spirits. Their new collection, ‘Carla’ looks set to break my bank this week.

Carla is a beautiful printed collection showcased on sumptuous satin and flowing chiffons making for an elegant range. Delicate lace, bias cut silhouettes and rich pink satins create an undeniable sense of luxury. Flounce hems and sparkling crystal trims add to the attraction of this sophisticated range.

Highly recommend checking out the Carla Pajama Set (satin) which is a Solid satin cami with sweetheart neckline, lace cups, and tapered straps paired with a floral printed pajama pant.

Nayomi_shereen Shabnam

If you like inner wear to be fun and fabulous, get the Carla Babydoll Set (mesh/lace) – Seductive babydoll with wired, lace cups and boning detail for great support, semi-fitted body with satin ruffles at hem.

My favourite is the Carla Short Dress Set (satin/chiffon) – This pretty short dress set features a printed flounce sleeved chiffon short robe over a pink satin dress.
