Qualys launches UAE Cloud to empower Middle East organizations to effectively address security across their Global IT environment and comply with local data residency requirements

Qualys UAE Cloud allows organizations of all sizes to automatically build a comprehensive global IT asset inventory, identify in real-time devices that connect to the network, identify and prioritize vulnerabilities and misconfigurations, identify malware and effectively respond, all with deployment of a single light weight agent, network sensors and cloud connectors

Qualys (NASDAQ: QLYS), a pioneer and leading provider of cloud-based security and compliance solutions, today launched the Qualys UAE Cloud, a platform that will allow public and private enterprises across the Middle East to innovate as Qualys brings them unprecedented security and visibility across their hybrid IT environment.

The move comes as regional cloud migration reaches fever pitch. Last year, YouGov revealed that 88% of IT stakeholders in the UAE were planning budget increases for cloud computing. Across the GCC, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has acted as an accelerant to digital transformation, with the International Data Corporation (IDC) projecting that the Gulf’s public cloud market alone will more than double over the next four years, from US$956 million in 2020 to US$2.35 billion in 2024. IDC also predicted that hybrid clouds — known for their complexity and compliance issues — will grow in popularity.

But many organizations in heavily regulated industries such as banking, oil and gas, and government have had to consider issues such as privacy and data residency when planning their migration journeys. The Qualys UAE Cloud platform will eliminate these barriers and will act as the company’s main hub for the Middle East.

“The UAE has been a clear leader in cloud-first technology strategy, as it has moved forward boldly with its ambition to become a regional data hub,” said Hadi Jaafarawi, Managing Director Middle East at Qualys. “The Qualys UAE Cloud will help further this goal. It is a clear signal of our resolute commitment to the country and the wider region and comes at a pivotal moment — amid an economic crisis — when organizations need to innovate with greater ease.”

The Qualys UAE Cloud will offer all the company’s key solutions including VMDR®, (Vulnerability Management, Detection and Response); Multi-Vector EDR; Global IT Asset Inventory; Configuration Management; Certificate Inventory; Threat Protection; Continuous Monitoring; Patch Management; Container Security; Web Application Scanning; and Web Application Firewalls.

The Qualys Cloud Platform, already trusted by businesses across the country and the region, will now support several local compliance requirements, such as the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre’s (ADSIC) Information Security Policy and the UAE Information Assurance Regulation. It will also allow Qualys’ partners, such as managed service providers (MSPs), the opportunity to offer cloud services to sectors that are highly regulated.

“In today’s global digital economy, the competitiveness of nations is dependent on their ability to leverage technology in ways that set them apart,” said Andrew Ward, Senior Vice President – NBI Products & Solutions, du. “The UAE’s cloud-first strategy, as set out in the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority’s guidelines of 2018, calls for the establishment of a regional data hub. As such, we commend Qualys for pursuing its vision to launch a UAE-based cloud-services platform. This move aligns with our own strategy to work with the most reputable vendors and ensure businesses across the region have seamless access to the tools and intelligence they require to build innovative ecosystems. Innovation is the gateway for Middle Eastern companies to continue thriving in the new digital landscape. Looking ahead, a host of possibilities await organizations with support from Qualys UAE Cloud.”

“Qualys has been in the UAE for more than 12 years,” added Jaafarawi. “We have watched the country lead the way in the adoption of digital solutions. These breakthroughs have bridged industrial sectors and set several benchmarks for the region. But we are aware that such progress does not happen in a bubble. Due attention must be paid to the security and privacy of individuals and organizations. Economies rise and fall on the building or degradation of trust. That is what Qualys brings to the region with our local cloud platform — the peace of mind necessary to keep on innovating.”

The Qualys UAE cloud will be available in December 2020

IATA Travel Pass Key to Reopening Borders Safely

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that it is in the final development phase of the IATA Travel Pass, a digital health pass that will support the safe reopening of borders.

Governments are beginning to use testing as a means of limiting the risks of COVID-19 importation when re-opening their borders to travelers without quarantine measures. IATA Travel Pass will manage and verify the secure flow of necessary testing or vaccine information among governments, airlines, laboratories and travelers.

IATA is calling for systematic COVID-19 testing of all international travelers and the information flow infrastructure needed to enable this must support:

  • Governments with the means to verify the authenticity of tests and the identity of those presenting the test certificates.
  • Airlines with the ability to provide accurate information to their passengers on test requirements and verify that a passenger meets the requirements for travel.
  • Laboratories with the means to issue digital certificates to passengers that will be recognized by governments, and;
  • Travelers with accurate information on test requirements, where they can get tested or vaccinated, and the means to securely convey test information to airlines and border authorities.

“Today borders are double locked. Testing is the first key to enable international travel without quarantine measures. The second key is the global information infrastructure needed to securely manage, share and verify test data matched with traveler identities in compliance with border control requirements. That’s the job of IATA Travel Pass. We are bringing this to market in the coming months to also meet the needs of the various travel bubbles and public health corridors that are starting operation,” said Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s Director General and CEO.

IATA Travel Pass incorporates four open sourced and interoperable modules which can be combined for an end-to-end solution:

  • Global registry of health requirements enables passengers to find accurate information on travel, testing and eventually vaccine requirements for their journey.
  • Global registry of testing / vaccination centers – enables passengers to find testing centers and labs at their departure location which meet the standards for testing and vaccination requirements of their destination.
  • Lab App – enables authorized labs and test centers to securely share test and vaccination certificates with passengers.
  • Contactless Travel App – enables passengers to (1) create a ‘digital passport’, (2) receive test and vaccination certificates and verify that they are sufficient for their itinerary, and (3) share testing or vaccination certificates with airlines and authorities to facilitate travel. This app can also be used by travelers to manage travel documentation digitally and seamlessly throughout their journey, improving travel experience.

IATA and International Airlines Group (IAG) have been working together in the development of this solution and will undertake a trial to demonstrate that this platform combined with COVID-19 testing can reopen international travel and replace quarantine.

The airline industry demands a cost effective, global, and modular solution to safely restart travel. IATA Travel Pass is based on industry standards and IATA’s proven experience in managing information flows around complex travel requirements.

  • IATA’s Timatic is used by most airlines to manage compliance with passport and visa regulations and will be the base for the global registry and verification of health requirements.
  • IATA’s One ID initiative was endorsed by a resolution at its 75th Annual General Meeting in 2019 to securely facilitate travel processes with a single identity token. It is the base for the IATA Contactless Travel App for identity verification that will also manage the test and vaccination certificates.

“Our main priority is to get people traveling again safely. In the immediate term that means giving governments confidence that systematic COVID-19 testing can work as a replacement for quarantine requirements. And that will eventually develop into a vaccine program. The IATA Travel Pass is a solution for both. And we have built it using a modular approach based on open source standards to facilitate interoperability. It can be used in combination with other providers or as a standalone end-to-end solution. The most important thing is that it is responsive to industry’s needs while enabling a competitive market,” said Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Airport, Passenger, Cargo and Security.

The first cross-border IATA Travel Pass pilot is scheduled for later this year and the launch slated for quarter one 2021.

Kodak Alaris Named to KMWorld’s Trend-Setting Products List for Fourth Consecutive Year

KMWorld, a popular business and technology publication focused on document, content, and knowledge management, has recognized the INfuse Smart Connected Scanning Solution from Kodak Alaris on its list of Trend-Setting Products of 2020. The cloud-based solution offers network-connected document capture that integrates with line-of-business systems so content can be onboarded directly into business processes. Several ISVs and solution providers are partnering with Kodak Alaris to deliver INfuse to end users.

  • Xenith Intelligent Workplace Services is partnering with Kodak Alaris to create a pre-configured Scan@Home Solution for remote workers, built on INfuse.

  • IDT also developed a solution that will help department of motor vehicle agencies comply with REAL ID requirements, and all but eliminate user error during the document scanning process.
  • Kodak Alaris and Nimble Information Strategies have entered into an agreement with a Canadian Provincial Government agency to streamline the way applications for citizen services are digitized.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the way organizations and individuals work, as well as how they support and communicate with customers and partners—making it clear that knowledge management is essential, now more than ever. Kodak Alaris recently enhanced the award-winning INfuse Solution to drive further adoption of ‘edge capture.’ Updates include adding Windows Server 2019 support, three new flatbed accessories, and a card reader accessory for improved access control and user authentication.
