A Yacht Of Timeless Elegance

Benetti Reveals Sale Of The Second Motopanfilo 37m

Benetti proudly announces the sale of the second unit of the Motopanfilo 37M, signed with the intermediation of Ocean Independence. The brand new model, in fiberglass and composite material, stems from Benetti’s artistic and historical path, drawing inspiration both from the 60s “navette” and from the stylistic notes of that successful era, to create a product suspended in time.

The timeless charm of Benetti Motopanfilo 37M enchanted a new owner: the second unit of this glamorous yacht has been recently sold to a German businessman. Already an experienced yacht owner, he has finally fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a Benetti yacht, going for one of the most peculiar design in the shipyard’s fleet. The new contract has been signed with the intermediation of Swiss broker Ocean Independence.

With a 297 gross tonnage, Motopanfilo 37M is characterized by compact and clean volumes; the external lines were designed by Francesco Struglia in collaboration with Benetti, complementing the interiors by Lazzarini Pickering Architects.

The designers have conceived this model as a shell in which guests feel enveloped and protected: a compelling message to welcome guests, inviting them to relax amidst the timeless charm of this boat. The displacement hull, designed by P.L.A.N.A. – PierLuigi Ausonio Naval Architecture, ensures a smooth navigation and the greatest comfort on board.

Throughout the interiors, a sophisticated palette based on shades of light wood, white and blue, immediately brings the mind back to the tradition of seafaring, reinterpreted in a timeless key. An innovative, seamless, bronze metallic painted ribbon defines the bulwark running from the main deck to the upper deck overhang, a nod to the historic wooden cap rail.

The definitive elements of the yacht include the Observation Deck which, positioned above the hard top, provides a small sheltered living area, absolutely intimate with a unique view at any time of day, and the transom, a nod to the iconic models of the Sixties with a modern twist in the form of a beach club, designed to respond to the expectations of today’s boat owners.

The central face of the transom, sharply inclined downwards, opens up to reveal a bathing platform surprisingly ample for a 37-meter. This unit will also feature a signature light, highlighting her profile at night, and a custom swimming pool.

The layout places the owner’s suite forward on the Main Deck and four guest cabins on the Lower Deck for a total of 10 guests. Toward the bow on the same deck, three cabins are dedicated to the six crew members, while the captain’s cabin is adjacent to the wheelhouse on the Upper Deck.

Inspired to the Benetti “navette” from the ‘60s, Motopanfilo 37M reinterprets those iconic, glamorous features incorporating them into a modern design, so to meet the needs of the contemporary yacht owners and offer them a boat whose elegant lines evokes memories of the best nautical traditions.

Leading the Market in Innovation and Beyond: A New Way to Evaluate HCI Market Share

By: Tonya Chin, SVP Corporate Marketing and IR, and Chief Communications Officer at Nutanix

The hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) market has been on a fast journey over the past few years. Starting as a hardware-centric market focused on the simplicity of procuring datacenter hardware and software in one fell swoop, it quickly shifted as software-centric technology vendors and customers alike realized the biggest value一and innovation一was in the software. This is probably not surprising to those closely following the HCI market now but then it was a big change in the IT industry, as it evolved to embrace software-defined offerings.

This shift also came with challenges, particularly that of evaluating market share. At the beginning of 2020, I shared my thoughts on the effectiveness of IDC’s Converged Infrastructure Tracker, calling for a reevaluation of their methodology to separately focus on software sales, without accounting for hardware. We knew these numbers would tell a very different story, and were eager to share this with the market at large.

I’m ecstatic to share that IDC just released their Software-Defined Storage Controller Software Market Share, which encompasses the HCI software market along with software for block, file, and object offerings. Here, as I have long asserted, Nutanix is clearly the market leader with 25% of the market, well ahead of the nearest competitor at 15%.

This has been the result of extensive work from IDC to completely reevaluate a quickly evolving market. One that required rethinking the status quo to keep up with the pace of technology innovation and sales. We’re deeply grateful to IDC for realizing that there was a gaping hole in the market when it came to HCI software, and bringing this project to completion while giving Nutanix the credit that we long knew it was due.

What is Software-Defined Storage Controller Software?

According to IDC, the Software-Defined Storage Controller Software market is part of a new market share report by IDC focused on Software-Defined Infrastructure (SDI). From IDC:

“SDI refers to logically pooled resources of compute, memory, storage, and networking, which are managed by software with minimal human intervention. SDI systems are independent of the underlying hardware, as long as the hardware meets certain technical specifications. The underlying hardware in SDI systems are industry-standard, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products that have enterprise-grade certifications.”

IDC divides the SDI market in three areas: software-defined compute software, software-defined networking software, and software-defined storage controller software (SDSCS). The last one, SDSCS, includes and combines block, file, object, and hyperconverged software offerings that enable the creation of a storage system.

Here, IDC shares:

“SDS-CS is the core software that virtualizes and pools the storage resources across different servers that comprise the SDS. SDS-CS provides for data persistence, a set of data services (snapshots, replication, etc.), and a method of data organization (block, file, and/or object) along with one or more defined access methods (block, file, and/or object). Another way to describe an SDS system is that it has modular building blocks, uses industry-standard hardware platforms, and typically employs distributed, scale-out architecture.”

While this is a broader view than just HCI, HCI software represents the vast majority of the market included in this new view. This is also the cleanest view of the HCI software market. The only public one that allows the industry to compare the largest HCI software vendors without estimated hardware sales impacting, and in fact determining, market leadership calculations. Additionally, while IDC will continue to publish the Converted Tracker, they will no longer actively promote it within a formal press release, and shift their focus to this view instead. One that we believe is a more meaningful view into the HCI market as it continues to evolve.

For now, I want to thank IDC for all their work, and share a heartfelt congratulations to the Nutanix team, our customers and partners for all the hard work that led to this significant recognition!

Note: IDC 2H2020 Semiannual Software-Defined Infrastructure Tracker, June 2021. Market referenced is the calendar year 2020 software-defined controller software (SDS-CS) functional market. SDS-CS market includes all discrete file, block and object-based SDS-CS solutions as well as all hyperconverged SDS-CS solutions. Market is software only and excludes the value of hardware.

Barracuda Threat Report Reveals Evolving Ransomware Attack Patterns

New third-annual research report analyses Ransomware attacks that occurred between August 2020 and July 2021

Highlights:

  • In the past 12 months, Barracuda researchers identified and analysed 121 Ransomware incidents and saw a 64% increase in attacks, year over year.
  • Attacks on corporations and businesses made up 57% of all ransomware attacks.
  • 8% of the incidents had a ransom ask less than $10 million, and 14% of the incidents had a ransom ask greater than $30 million.
  • Attacks in the past 12 months have expanded across the globe.

Barracuda, a trusted partner and leading provider of cloud-enabled security solutions, today released its third-annual threat research report on Ransomware. The new report looks at Ransomware attack patterns that occurred between August 2020 and July 2021.

A closer look at Ransomware trends

Barracuda researchers identified and analysed 121 ransomware incidents that occurred between August 2020 and July 2021, and saw a 64% increase in attacks, year over year. Cybercriminals are still heavily targeting municipalities, health care, and education, but attacks on other businesses are surging:

  • Attacks on corporations, such as infrastructure, travel, financial services, and other businesses, made up 57% of all ransomware attacks between August 2020 and July 2021, up from just 18% in our 2020 study.
  • Infrastructure-related businesses account for 10% of all the attacks we studied. In fact, ransomware attacks are quickly evolving to target software supply chains, which reach more businesses in a single attempt.
  • The ransom amount is increasing dramatically and now the average ransom ask per incident is over 10 million dollars. 8% of the incidents had a ransom ask less than $10 million, and 14% of the incidents had a ransom ask greater than $30 million.
  • Ransomware attacks are becoming pervasive across the globe. Just under half (44%) of the attacks in the past 12 months hit U.S organizations.

“As cybercriminals are working towards bigger paydays in the future, the security industry needs to continue to create solutions that are easily consumable for companies of all sizes,” said Fleming Shi, CTO at Barracuda. “Attackers often start with small organizations that are connected to the larger targets and then work their way up. All of us in the security industry have an obligation to turn sophisticated technology into products and services that can be easily consumed by customers.”

International Business Challenges

Why professionalism and business ethics count

Interview with Nadiia Ratke

We meet with the Nadiia Ratke, who is the brainchild behind the International Organisation of Social Justice. We met Nadia first when she was the Advisor to the Head of the All-Ukrainian Union Batkivshchyna, Yulia Tymoshenko who is also the Ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine and more recently in her capacity as an International Business Development professional linking businesses to opportunities between Europe, Middle East, Latin America and the USA.

Tell us about your challenges as a Business Development professional between different countries?

During my career I met with people from many different cultures and while some did business ethically, many did not and often went back on their word or looked for way that would give them gain and put others at a disadvantage. In business there has to be mutual respect and a win win situation. I feel there is a general lack of attention to morality in the world of leadership today and that is the biggest challenge we face. The definition of morality needs to more aligned amongst business professionals globally.

Tell us about your education?

I graduated with a Masters (M.A.) in Chernihiv National Pedagogical University named Taras Shevchenko and my PhD in Philosophy is from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) / Germany.

How did your journey in the business world begin?

My career started with me working for various global charity organisations and the EU Parliament as part of the team for Human rights, Immigration, Justice, home affairs and Asylum policies.  Following that I became an adviser to the Head of the Political Party Batkivshchyna Yulia Tymoshenko. Now I focus my time on Business Development and the International Organisation of Social Justice.

What is your educational background?

I am a graduate of the International School of Management, Hamburg/ Germany focussing on International Management for my B.Sc. Psychology & Management, I went to the European Business School in Dublin, Ireland and completed an M.A. in Social Management from the “Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany. I also studied Chernihiv National Pedagogical University.

Tell us about your current role in Business Development?

I was always connecting businesses and people who have similar synergies throughout my career so now I bring my expertise of what I learnt before to the table and use that to propose interesting and unique ideas to potential investors or business partners.

Are you working on any new projects now?

Personally, I am finalising my PhD in philosophy, which I believe will help me in my future career. Professionally my aim is to introduce the best of Europe to the Middle East region and also to advise businesses on potential areas of collaboration across continents.

Tell us about your CSR activities?

With the International Organisation of Social Justice we hope to use lessons from the past to help solve social problems, fill the gaps and raise awareness. We cooperate with international organisations in different countries and the UN to implement strategies to improve on the social problems in the more disadvantaged communities.

How do you see your professional life developing?

My aim is to help make changes to the society for the better with my CSR work and advocate better business practices with my Business Development work. I strongly believe in acting honorably and leading with high character and hope to business with like-minded professionals who make ethical decisions and have a moral compass.

Remaking History : The legendary Queen Elizabeth 2

Shereen Shabnam

Before the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) ship started a new chapter in her storied history as a floating hotel, dining and entertainment destination in Dubai, I got a glimpse of the interior in all its glory during a tour with our then design team.

With the highly anticipated international interest, it was a delight to be one of the first on the ship when it docked in Dubai and then seeing it refurbished and reinvented as a legendary vessel that is a must-see tourism destination, in a city renowned for its world-class attractions.

The world-famous cruise liner, which has a history spanning over 5 decades, is docked permanently at Mina Rashid offering dining options, accommodation and entertainment attractions. Visitors can have a unique experience capturing all that was grand during its forty years of service.

During a visit on board, we admired the selection of beautifully restored rooms and suites and explore QE2’s rich history in the QE2 Heritage Exhibition. Here we can step back in time in a space that created so many wonderful memories of 40 years at sea.

The legendary ocean liner is docked close to where we live and we love it as a multi-faceted tourist destination continuing to make a mark as a 13-deck hotel that has been thoughtfully restored to her former glory and maintaining her most loved interior design features such as the period furniture, renowned paintings and famous memorabilia.

The original porthole windows still add a maritime feel to the attractive modernized guest rooms and a number of her original restaurants have retained the same names and décor as her former years.  Whilst extensively preserving her authentic elements, the hotel has been equipped with all the latest technology.

The QE2 Exhibition is a must see as it is an interactive museum that showcases the QE2 during the 60’s when she was a pioneer in design, technology and lifestyle – words often used to describe the city she resides in today. Coming from a family obsessed with theatre, we enjoy the entertainment scene that QE2 is becoming known for amongst theatre enthusiasts.

The gem in the crown of the QE2 are the two Royal Suites named after the Queen’s mother and grandmother. These suites offer a private veranda, conservatory and dining room – in addition to a luxurious bedroom. Highly personalised amenities are included for Passengers who can book the suite by invitation only.

We recommend trying the hotel’s signature restaurant is The Queens Grill which offers a refined selection of British fine-dining dishes as well as a tasting menu that recreates a classic selection of dishes from 1969. Another must try is the high tea – if you find yourself looking for things to do on a lazy afternoon, the QE2 afternoon tea hits the spot each time.

The QE2 is home to a number of unique event and meeting room spaces, most notably The Queen’s Room which is an inimitable ballroom unlike any other in the city. It is the perfect place to take guests who love the history and all things maritime.
